The Importance of a Digital Guitar Tuner
Digital Guitar Tuner
For every guitarist, to be able to tune their guitars on their own is a rite of passage. There are a few accomplished musicians who have mastered the skill of tuning by ear while the rest have to rely on other devices. Musicians have to turn to other devices and inventions to assist them in tuning their instruments. The different devices that resulted from this need are tuning forks, and digital guitar tuners.
There are four main types of digital guitar tuners. They come in the form of a clip on, handheld, the ones that are mounted on guitars or from computer software. The hand held ones are the most common digital tuners. The hand held ones can be placed in close proximity to the body of guitar or connected via cable.
For hands free-guitar tuning, the wise choice would be a clip-on digital guitar tuner. Hands-free implies that there is no need for cables or any connection that the guitarist should plug into. The clip-on digital guitar tuner is clipped on the heads of the guitars so they can pick up the vibration of the string tones. This clip on digital guitar tuner picks up vibrations and not sounds so it is the right tuner when you are playing in front of many people. Clip-on digital tuners can work for other types of guitars, such as the bass, acoustic and electric.
If you want to check the computer software of digital guitar tuners, then you need to have either of the following, USB port plus cable or a microphone that is usually built-in the computer.
Decide which tuning you want to play in, whether the standard tuning or any tuning possible. Digital guitar tuners can be even used for Drop D, tuning in from the low to the high.
Digital guitar tuners operate the same way as other guitar tuners. If it flashes a green light it means the strings are in tune, it flashes red if there is a mistuned string. You can loosen or tighten the guitar string by turning on the tuning pegs. Do the same process for all the strings and double check it again in case a string might have lost its proper pitch. Be careful in tugging the string so as not to break it and start all over again.

Free Guitar Tuner: Available online
Free Guitar Tuner
Guitarists know that guitar tuners are essential tools in their trade. Even if the musician has exceptional talent, it won’t be maximized if the instrument he or she plays is out of tune. For a beginner guitarist, tuning the guitar would enhance your playing skills in the long run. Guitar tuners are sold at local music stores, but if you want to look for a free guitar tuner, the best place to look is online. There are several websites that provide free guitar tuners, and though they do not function like the physical tuner, they provide tones that you can match to each string of your guitar.
One example of a free guitar tuner is software created by GCH Guitar Academy called the Guitar Tuner 1.50. This software provides the correct tones for each string of both electric and acoustic guitars.
If you are browsing the net, check out Gieson Online Guitar tuner, because they offer free guitar tuners. You can begin applying this free guitar tuner by looking at the left switch labeled “E” which corresponds to your top string. While the switch is on, the free guitar tuner will keep on playing the pitch repeatedly and you can control its play time by pressing the “Delay” button so you can listen carefully whether the tone and the strings have the same tune. Listen carefully and adjust the tuning pegs so that the pitches match. This process should be applicable to other strings of the guitar as well.
Guitar for Beginners Online tuner is another source of free guitar tuners. You would see a visual representation of your fretboard with the top string located on the left. Click on the particular string that you would like to tune. Match the tone of the string to the correct pitch provided by this free guitar tuner. The same process goes for the other strings.
Better double check the tuning of the strings after an initial run through. While tuning the other strings, the initial strings that are tuned can lose its proper pitch. Take caution when you turn your tuning pegs. If you turn it too fast, there is a possibility that the strings may break.

Choosing an Acoustic Guitar Tuner
Acoustic Guitar Tuner
There are a couple of things that you should always remember when you are a beginner, and that is to constantly practice to become a great guitar player and to keep your instruments in tune and perfect condition. Tuning a guitar using your ears is a very difficult process especially for beginners. This skill takes a lot of time to master and perfect. Such special skill needs a lot of patience and perseverance before it can be mastered. For the mean time, you need to use an acoustic guitar tuner so that your instruments would sound right so it can complement your plucking skills.
Acoustic guitar tuners come in different types. One of the most common types of acoustic guitar tuner that you would encounter is the electronic acoustic guitar tuner. The needle of the electronic tuners indicates whether the string is either flat or sharp. If the needle points to the center, the results mean that the tune is perfect. If the needle yields to the left or to the right, it means that it is either high or low. To make sure that everything is in tune, a green light will flash if you play the scales. The strings would need some turning if red light appears on the acoustic guitar tuner.
The other acoustic guitar tuner that has a built-in microphone is the acoustic guitar auto tuner. The string of a standard guitar is calibrated for this acoustic guitar tuner. There is no need to play the scales, all you need is to play the note and it tells whether you are out of tune or not.
The other type of acoustic guitar tuner is the clip-on tuner. There is no need for a microphone since all it needs is to pick up the vibrations of the guitar while being clipped on to it. This is suitable when you are playing to a full house and you want to check your guitar in between songs.
You can avail of these acoustic guitar tuners at your local music store but make sure ask around what is the suitable one for your particular situation.

Automatic Guitar Tuner: Tuning it Automatically
Automatic Guitar Tuner
It’s been a fact that guitars have a tendency to go out of tune. There’s only a small minority who can develop that special skill of tuning by ear and not everyone has the capability to acquire such skill even though they have been playing for years. Hence, the need for an automatic guitar tuner comes in. They turn to the automatic guitar tuner for tuning their instruments rather than relying on others to keep it in tune for them. Being able to know how to use this device would save the musician time from constant tuning and at the same time, would enhance the pitch and sound of your instrument for others’ listening pleasure.
The initial step in using an automatic guitar tuner is to identify if the guitar is in tune. The standard tuning of a guitar would be a good basis to begin with. Using the top string, and calibrating it to the initial letter “E” can accomplish this.
The batteries of the automatic guitar tuner should be fully charged. There are two types of automatic guitar tuners and you can distinguish as electric and the other one as needle. The electric guitar tuners have a series of LED lights while the needle type has a needle that points to center if the instrument is properly tuned.
Find the string you want to test, and set that automatic guitar tuner and listen if it’s in tune or not. Then just like what you do to chickens, you also pluck the string. The electric guitar tuner would then flash a green light to signify that the string is in tune. If you are using the needle tuner, the needle will hover directly in the center when the string is in tune. If both automatic tuners give negative results, you can modify the tune of the guitar by turning on the tuning pegs located on the guitar’s headstock. If the string is high, then loosen it, and if the string is low, tighten it. Repeat this process for all the other strings. Snapping of strings can occur if there is a sudden turn, so better be careful.
